Unit 3: Themes in Literature and Life (Pgs. 28-30)
HCPSS English 12 Essential Curriculum (2009)

  • Objective 1.2.2: The student will (TSW) determine the critical or central idea(s) of a text. TSW be able to determine and/or explain the theme(s) found in a work of literature; determine and/or explain the experiences, emotions, issues and ideas in a text that give rise to universal literary themes; determine, explain, and/or extend ideas and issues of a text that may have implications for readers or contemporary society (28).
  • TSW apply techniques of creative writing in a poem or journal entry to develop a major theme (29).
  • Objective 5.2.1: TSW participate in and contribute to large- and small-group collaboration for a variety of assigned and self-selected purposes (15).
